Helpful Hints

Check here frequently to read up on tips and ideas you can use to make waste disposal hassle-free, answer questions you might have or to get creative with recycling! If you would like to see something added, please email us with your thoughts.

  • When calling the customer care department be sure to have your account number and/or address available and please be specific about which service you are calling about. The brown cart = trash, gray cart = recycling, green cart = yard waste.

  • If your trash container is overflowing, the driver will have to charge extra. You can avoid these pesky charges by just upgrading to a larger trash cart! Check the BFI rate schedule or call customer care at 831-775-3840.


Safety First!

BFI is committed to providing safe waste collection and we dedicate many hours of safety training and reinforcement with our drivers. Here’s what you can do to help ensure safety when sharing the road with our drivers:

  • Everyone knows what it's like to get stuck behind a garbage truck - it smells, it moves kind of slow and it stops a lot so all you want to do is pass it. However, when passing please be sure you can see the driver's mirrors. If you can’t see the driver, the driver can’t see you.

  • When following a truck, try to stay approximately 25 feet back. BFI drivers are very careful about looking when pulling out or backing up but it is safest to keep a good distance between you and the truck.

  • Driver Alert Sticker If you have a concern or a compliment about one of our drivers please call 1-800-827-SAFE. Be sure to note the truck number!
